“We are starting from the Oasis of Heliopolis, one of the suburbs of Cairo, which in Biblical times was known as the Land of Goschen. It was here, you will recall, that Joseph and Mary stopped when they came out of the Holy Land fleeing from Herod with their Child. At one time this oasis was the intellectual centre of the whole world. There was a university here which included among its students such men as Moses, Pythagoras, Euclid, Herodotus and Plato.”

-Lowell Thomas
