The Marist College Archives and Special Collections received grant funding to conduct a survey of environmental materials (such as legal papers, personal papers, scrapbooks, speeches/lectures, pamphlets, newspapers, etc.) concerning the Scenic Hudson Decision, the legal dispute between Scenic Hudson, Inc. and Consolidated Edison (1963-1981). This case launched the modern environmental movement and set many precedents in environmental law, including the right of citizens to speak in court on behalf of the environment. The goals of this project are to:
- Identify historically significant materials concerning the Scenic Hudson
Decision
- Help preserve the materials concerning the Scenic Hudson Decision
- Promote access to the materials concerning the Scenic Hudson
Decision for use by researchers
- To promote the environmental well being of the Hudson Valley
Please contact John Ansley if you or anyone you know might have any materials pertaining to this case.
